“Defenders have to get the puck to the net, and that’s a must.” CSKA coach criticized the team’s game against Sochi

Head Coach CSKA Sergei Fedorov after the victory over Sochi (2-0), he expressed his dissatisfaction with the weak implementation of the army team and dismantled the play of the defenders of his team in the attacking zone.

The army team took 50 shots on target but only managed to score twice, and the second goal was scored in an empty net.

– The guys gave themselves to the process every sixty minutes, but at the same time there were ambiguous moments in the game, – said Fedorov. – With such a huge advantage, the implementation should be better. Although Sochi defended well, they blocked almost thirty shots. And I know for sure that our entire team understands that. Goals will come in handy down the road.

– Maybe your players underestimated Sochi? Where is the weak implementation?

— I don’t think we underestimated the opponent. This is due to other reasons, which we must analyze. Key words for guys: in training you also have to score.

– In the first period, CSKA attacked a lot and threw at goal, but never scored. Did you radically change anything during the break?

– There were no cardinal changes in the links. But the guys have been warned that the Sochi keeper sees their shots and catches everything. Thus, in front of him at the time of the throw, it is necessary to create a hindrance. Defenders have to get the puck to the net, and that’s a must. Because when you put a defenseman in shooting position and he throws the puck in the corner, like he’s saying to the forwards, “You work a little harder, and I’ll stand on the blue line. That is not exactly correct. That is to say in simple terms, but guys know what to do with the puck, it doesn’t always work. This is not an accusation, just an observation.

CSKA is third in the KHL Western Conference standings, tied on points with Lokomotiv (65 each).
