The “Maple Leaves” once again proved that they have no equal in this sport.
Team Canada wins the World Youth Ice Hockey Championship again. For the U-20 team, this is the third time in the last 4 years and the 20th title in history. Note that the gold medals this year went to the Canadians in a tight fight, despite the fact that the tournament was held in their hometown.
In the final, held in Halifax, the “ancestors of hockey” faced the Czech team – the only team that managed to defeat the hosts in the tournament. The teams met in the group stage, and then the Europeans were stronger 5:2.
“Maple Leaves” drew conclusions from that defeat, and the decisive match began very strongly. Having scored the puck in the first two periods, the Canadians were confidently leading, and it seemed that they would take the match to their logical victory.
However, the Czechs managed to turn the game around in the third 20-minute period, scoring two goals in less than a minute.
But in overtime, which took place in a 3-on-3 format, the hosts were able to squeeze the opponent. 3:2 – in favor of Canada.
