Former Czech national ice hockey team goalkeeper Dominik Hasek commented on the statement of the President of the International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) Luc Tardif that the decision to allow the Russian team to participate in the 2024 World Junior Championship will be taken in May this year.
– IIHF chief commented on (non)acceptance of Russian and Belarusian hockey players to “our tournaments” and said the policy will not affect him. We hope! If the IIHF doesn’t want to be held accountable, like the NHL, it can’t bring Russia and Belarus back.
I consider it the duty of every democratic country that will organize tournaments not to let Russian and Belarusian athletes enter its territory.
I hope that no Russian or Belarusian athlete will be allowed to participate in a hockey, tennis or other tournament in this situation. We should not contribute to their publicity like this,” Hasek wrote on social media.
Earlier, Hasek criticized the NHL, WTA and ATP for continuing to allow Russian athletes to participate in tournaments under their auspices.
