Moscow CoachDynamo » Alexei Kudashov believes that his team conceded in the third period of the match against “Salavat Yulaeva » two goals in 26 seconds because of the inexperience of young hockey players.
On Tuesday, Dynamo defeated Salavat Yulaev Ufa in the Fonbet KHL Championship home game with the score 3:2. The Muscovites confidently led the score until the 49th minute of the game. But in the middle of the third period, they conceded two goals in a row and allowed the Ufa team to equalize the score. Dynamo’s Jacob Lilja scored the game-winning point in the 58th minute.
“We wanted to give even more pleasure to the public, so that they can also watch extra time,” Kudashov joked. But they scored the winning goal just in time. But seriously, it turned out to be a very tactical game, with nothing supernatural about it. When we took the lead, the Ufa team started to attack more, because they needed to resume. Those goals conceded are frustrating – what about Kunlun, now what. But we’ll fix it, it doesn’t matter. We have a lot of young guys who are prone to stressful situations and panic. Sometimes they lack composure, bad decisions are made.
– And yet, two goals conceded in 26 seconds – is that psychology?
– Not. Although I probably should have taken a time out then. The psychology starts later, when the team starts to get scared. It takes time to realize and restructure that there are no more advantages and that everything has to be started over. It’s good that it’s happening now. There is an opportunity to get through such difficult times.
– It is clear that the players are stressed at such a time. What did you try to convey to them after Salavat’s equaliser?
“I liked that the guys figured it out themselves. Not just the executives, the whole store started saying the right things. We did it ourselves.
– Today, Dynamo scored in the minority. And there are a lot of goals like that in the KHL this season. Do you see a coaching trend in this area?
– Most power-play special teams are four forwards and one defenseman on the blue line. They don’t think about defence, the head is only on attack. Therefore, it is not surprising that most teams often encounter counter attacks.
Dynamo Moscow is fifth in the KHL Western Conference standings, one point behind fourth-placed Lokomotiv Yaroslavl.
