Former striker of the Russian national team and the “Zenith” of Saint-Petersburg Andrei Arshavin in an interview with a correspondent, he regretted that the Winter Classics are currently not taking place at the Gazprom Arena football stadium.
The Winter Classic (KHL match in an open arena) was held in St. Petersburg twice: in December 2018 and 2019.
— Do you support the St. Petersburg club, which occupies first place in the KHL championship?
– As sad as it sounds, I haven’t been to SKA Arena for about a year. So sometimes I look at the results. In my opinion, SKA is far ahead of the others in the table. In general, I wish them success. Always happy to watch and cheer on the team. It’s a shame they don’t hold the Winter Classics at Gazprom Arena now. It was a great event!
Are you surprised that S.K.A. so well led by manager Rotenberg? It can be compared to how translator José Mourinho became a football manager and succeeded.
– It was unexpected for me when Roman Borisovich became the head coach of SKA. But I see that he succeeds. Well done, I wish him success.
SKA scored 80 points and leads the KHL Western Conference standings. In the next game, on January 13, Roman Rotenberg’s team will play at home with Dynamo Moscow.
Arshavin played for Zenit, Arsenal, Kuban and Kairat. After the end of his playing career, Arshavin returned to Zenit, where he works as Deputy General Manager of Sports Development.
