According to VTsIOM, the first place in the poll of Russians for the title of the best athlete in Russia was taken by figure skater Kamila Valieva, 7% of respondents voted for her. The second place was taken by the three-time Olympic champion in cross-country skiing Alexander Bolshunov (5%), the third was Ovechkin (4%).
– All athletes are very worthy, but I would put Alexander Ovechkin in the first place. Bolshunov, Valieva are young athletes. Valieva, in fact, only broke into the elite of athletes. Ovechkin is another matter. This guy does a lot not only for hockey, for himself and his club, but for all of Russia. He is the face of our sport all over the world! In these difficult times for our sport, Ovechkin is the most deserving candidate for the title of “Sportsman of the Year”.
