“To some extent, Salavat plays on defense, such a line from the coaching staff” – Pustozerov

Striker “Salavat Yulaev” Alexei Pustozerov told RB Sport how he rated the team’s performance in the current KHL Fonbet Championship season.

– How do you rate Salavat Yulaev’s performance this season?

We are not going as high as we would like, but we have a good team. Little by little we are finding our game. There are recessions, like everyone else, but we have a new team. The losses are explained by the fact that in fact the coaches build a team from scratch. Right now we are rubbing shoulders with each other. I hope we will improve and over time we will consistently show a good game. We are gradually growing and moving in the right direction. Maybe not as fast as we would like, but there is growth – and that’s important. The playoffs are coming soon, and the most important thing is that we are happy with the spring result.

– An in-between task – getting into the top four and getting the edge on your home turf in the playoffs?

– There is no intermediate task. The main thing is to improve your game every day – for each player and for the whole team. And there we will already see how high we will be in the standings. It’s nice, of course, to start the playoffs at home. But it’s more important to win every game. And in the playoffs, the most interesting will begin.

– It is believed that this year “Salavat Yulaev” plays defensively. Are you okay with that?

— To a certain extent, we play defense. This is the line of the technical staff. If we go that route, we have to stick with it, and that can help us in the playoffs. But we also have good guys in attack who can decide when. I believe a balance is necessary – to play well both in attack and in defence. Right now we are working more on defence.

The Ufa club is fourth in the East with 63 points.
