Athletistic/Hockey. Vyacheslav Fetisov, a two-time Olympic champion of the USSR national ice hockey team, a deputy of the State Duma of the Russian Federation, believes that Russia’s membership in the International Ice Hockey Federation ( IIHF) doesn’t make much sense in today’s realities.

“But I don’t really understand why we need to be members of the International Ice Hockey Federation if we can’t participate in the competitions. What does this membership bring us? in the World Championship, but we will be members of the federation. I don’t understand why we are members of what we don’t need,” Fetisov said.

The national teams of Russia and Belarus have been suspended from participating in all international tournaments under the auspices of the IIHF for the 2022/2023 season. The 2023 Ice Hockey World Championship, originally scheduled to be held in Russia, will take place in Finland and Latvia.
