Cherepovets Severstal head coach Andrei Razin explained that one of the team’s top scorers Alexander Petunin did not play in the KHL regular season game against Salavat Yulaev Ufa due to a head injury.
On Friday, Severstal lost to Salavat Yulaev in the Fonbet KHL Championship away game – 1: 4. Petunin did not appear on the ice. On Wednesday, the 25-year-old hockey player was seriously injured during a match against the Barys of Kazakhstan (1-0, on penalties).
– Why did one of your team’s top scorers, Alexander Petunin, disappear from the team?
– Dumbest mid-game injury with Barys. Petunin was hit in the head while sitting on the bench. The puck hit in the face after a direct throw. Luckily it didn’t break. But he still only remembers half of the match with Barys. God forbid everything works out for him, ”said match TV correspondent quoting Razin.
– To what do you attribute the poor performance in recent matches?
– Salavat took the wave by winning the Green Derby. Such victories elevate the team psychologically. In this respect, they were better than us after the “war” with Ak Bars. The score is not in the game, our team played well throughout the game. But, unfortunately, the implementation of the moments we have is very weak. Before Salavat’s first goal, we had three chances, even better than the opponent’s. But all three shots were on the glass, not on goal. Going forward, they also created chances, but didn’t score. And stupid mistakes led to the capture of our gates.
Severstal is fighting for its participation in the playoffs. After 56 regular season games, the team sits ninth in the Western Conference.
