Russian goalkeeper of the club “New York Islanders » Semyon Varlamov said he was very lucky with the save after Vegas forward Reilly Smith shot an empty net in the NHL regular season game.
Varlamov made a first-period save and the Islanders beat Vegas 2-1 in overtime. Varlamov made 44 saves. In one of the episodes, Varlamov left the gate, but managed to fend off Smith’s throw, putting his club down.
– It’s luck. The doors were completely open, and this happens about once a year. Throw him (Smith) at this point 100 times, he probably would have scored in 99 episodes. I’m glad I made this backup. The feeling is incredible, it’s incredible. I’m glad I saved the gate at the right time,” Varlamov told the NHL’s official website.
Varlamov is 34 years old, in the 2022/23 season he has 16 NHL games and nine wins. The percentage of reflected shots is 91.7%, the reliability coefficient is 2.67.
