Without Russian players for NHL there would be less interest, says former Russian national hockey team head coach Vladimir Krikunov .
SKA head coach and first vice-president of the Russian Hockey Federation (RHF) Romain Rotenberg in an interview with , he said that without Russians in the NHL, “everything would fall apart” and “Russians are dragging all of hockey today.”
– Well, how do they hang out? We don’t participate anywhere. But what world hockey has lost from our absence is a fact. Each country plays its own origin hockey, and Russia in particular.
Of course, if all the Russian guys were taken out of the NHL, the league wouldn’t have completely disappeared – it’s a business structure. But today everyone is watching whether or not Ovechkin will catch up with Gretzky. Our goalies are showing themselves brilliantly, so of course without our players there would be less interest in the league. And there are smart people, they don’t subscribe to any sanctions. And they try to fence our guys off so they can play calmly. Without our guys, there would be less interest, so less income. Business comes first there,” Krikunov told Metaratings.ru.
