Down-the-line.com/Hockey. Pittsburgh Penguins captain Sidney Crosby has shared his thoughts on Washington Capitals captain Alexander Ovechkin’s future prospects. The Russian ranks second in the list of the best marksmen in NHL history, having scored 812 goals. The record belongs to legendary Canadian Wayne Gretzky, who scored 894 goals in his career.

Ovechkin and Crosby won the competition for the best shootout of the NHL All-Star Game. VIDEO

“He’s on his way to a record, on a good run. Hopefully he beats it,” Crosby said as quoted by TSN.

Ovechkin is currently 82 goals behind Gretzky. American journalists have already calculated that at the current rate, the Russian will need two more seasons to catch up with the record holder.
