General Director of Nizhny Novgorod “Torpedo” Alexander Kharlamov spoke to Metaratings.ru about the club’s financial situation.
It was planned that in the 2022/23 season the floor salary for KHL teams will be increased to 405 million rubles. However, in early April, at a meeting of the KHL board of directors, it was decided to keep the floor at around 315 million.
— In December, you re-signed many players. Is it because of the desire to enter half of the salaries and keep the backbone? What was its success? Will you ask for an increase in the budget for the next season, or will everything be decided after the playoffs? Is it possible that the budget will be increased?
– We have to give credit to the guys, their professionalism and their understanding of where they came from and who they work with. In my opinion, now everything suits them in Torpedo, so all the re-signatures went very quickly. And, indeed, before the deadline, we were a little short of half the wages – thus equalizing our financial situation with the league regulations, thus retaining the players.
As for the budget, it is a subject of conversation after the end of the championship. Now, I see no reason to pedal this problem. It would be someone to sign – and then we’ll figure it out. It is not yet known what will happen in the player market. The rules of the game are generally clear, but I don’t see the need to increase the budget yet.
