General Director of Nizhny Novgorod “Torpedo” Alexander Kharlamov told Metaratings.ru that he signed a contract with the head coach Igor Larionov .
– Was there a particular philosophy when building a team during the off-season? What were you counting on, a long-term project or two years, given the contracts of the coaches?
– We talked a lot with Igor Nikolaevich [Ларионовым] before his appointment. His philosophy was clear, we understood what he wanted to achieve in the future. It only remained to turn all ideas into reality. Assistants have also been selected for these purposes, they play an important role. Our long-term strategy initially meant that the team would play modern, offensive hockey.
We are currently building a new rink, which we plan to move to in 2025. At that time, a young and promising team should gain experience and we should have a combat-ready team capable of fighting for the highest squares. The contracts of hockey players and coaches are initially signed for these purposes. Yes, the agreements with the technical staff expire in 2024, but this is purely a technical point. I think there will be no difficulty in re-signing.
Larionov led Torpedo in early May 2022. Under his leadership, the Nizhny Novgorod club moved into second place in the KHL’s Fonbet Championship Western Conference standings, earning 82 points.
