Saint Petersburg head coach S.K.A. Romain Rotenberg says that a few years ago he could not imagine that he would hold such a position in a hockey club.
Since 2020, Rotenberg has been working as an assistant to the head coach of SKA, in 2022 he leads the team alone.
You could say that I have returned to my roots. I played a lot when I was a child, I spent all my free time at the rink, I played for different teams. In principle, he provided for a career as a hockey player, but my mother was categorically against it – she saw a lot of risks in it. Then, while still in the team, the guys received serious injuries … Therefore, having received an education, I worked to popularize hockey. But when I had the opportunity to work with the club, it was more interesting. From a club you can set a good example for everyone.
Fifteen years ago I could not imagine that I would become a coach, but if there is an opportunity to develop myself, I have to use it. Everything is interconnected here – to get results you need to understand how the marketing department, the infrastructure, the hockey vertical and the club work. I now apply my experience in my daily work. If I didn’t see that I could help the team, the city, I wouldn’t. But I see that together we can achieve serious results,” Rotenberg said on the KHL podcast “Ledcast.”
SKA sits first in the Western Conference standings with 93 points, the team secured the playoffs earlier than expected.
