Athletistic/Hockey. Two-time Olympic champion and three-time Stanley Cup winner Vyacheslav Fetisov asked whether Russian athletes should compete in the Olympics in a neutral status, without a flag or anthem. Earlier, IOC chief Thomas Bach admitted that Russian and Belarusian athletes will participate in the 2024 Olympics in a neutral status.

Fetisov: “In children’s hockey there is discrimination against parents who have fewer financial opportunities”

“Recently, I invited people close to me to discuss this issue in my program on one of the TV channels. They came … And literally within 10 minutes they divided into three camps.

They did not find a consensus: it is necessary – it is not necessary, with a flag – without a flag… I had an unequivocal opinion: the athletes have nothing to do with it, and we must ride in a status that will be allowed. But today the situation in the world has changed, and now I have no direct answer to this question.

At the same time, the Olympic Charter says nothing about suspending athletes due to country-led disputes. And we are imposed additional conditions, forced to discuss them. I think it’s advantageous for someone to separate the Russians – which, in fact, happened in my studio,” Fetisov quotes KP Sport.

Fetisov: “It’s not easy for me to say something to athletes who are preparing for who knows what”
