CSKA Moscow striker Prokhor Poltapov told Sport24 how he nearly ended his career after the first Fonbet KHL Championship game of the current season against Metallurg.
During the first half, the striker hit the head of Magnitogorsk defender Artem Zemchenko, being fined 5+20 for it.
Are you an emotional person?
– I’m quick-tempered, but about myself. After the game, I will review my moments, what I did wrong and what I didn’t. But I try not to show it. Nobody cares about my psychopaths. I go out and play, people paid for it. They came to enjoy the game, not to see me explode off the bench and pound the board.
— But you got 5+20 in the first game of the season. At that time, when they were sent off before the end of the match with Metallurg, they were like: “Okay, that’s it, now they are going to be sent to the HSE or the MHL”?
– Not that they’ll send me to MHL. I thought I was going to finish after that! It’s not just a joint, it’s in the first period, in the second or third shift, and immediately “5+20”. But the guys came and said, “It’s okay, everything happens, it’s toast.” I calmed down a bit. Then I thought about my mistake, drew conclusions.
This season, 20-year-old Poltapov has played 49 games for CSKA, scored 5 goals and provided 5 assists.
