Captain and striker “Washington” Alexander Ovechkin will not play in at least three of the next regular season games NHL .
On Tuesday, reported that Ovechkin will soon fly to Moscow due to his father’s illness.
Earlier, the press service of “Washington” reported that the Russian left the team location for family reasons. Capitals head coach Peter Laviolette confirmed the 37-year-old forward won’t be playing this week, wishing Ovechkin’s parents well.
Washington will play home games against the Carolinas and Florida this week, as well as an away game against the Hurricanes.
This season, Ovechkin has scored 54 points (32+22) in 54 regular season games. As part of the Russian’s departure, the Capitals brought in forward Joe Snively from the farmer club.
