On Wednesday, Ovechkin announced on social media that his father, Mikhail, had died aged 72.

On Tuesday, Ovechkin left the “Washington” location for family reasons. Capitals head coach Peter Laviolette confirmed the 37-year-old forward won’t play this week, wishing Ovechkin’s parents well.
