Father Alexander Ovechkin was honored at Washington Arena before the NHL game

The Washington Capitals lost 3-6 to the Florida Panthers in an NHL regular season game.

Before the start of the game, spectators in the stands and team players honored the memory of Mikhail Ovechkin, the Washington captain’s father, with a moment of silence Alexandra Ovechkina .

On February 15, news broke of the death of the striker’s father at the age of 72 after a long illness. Alexander has missed the team’s last two games.

Capitals head coach Peter Laviolette said earlier that the 37-year-old forward will not play in the NHL regular season this week for family reasons.
