Shesterkin made two assists, “Rangers” and “Carolina” will play the seventh game

The Rangers are doing wonders in the Stanley Cup. In the first round with Pittsburgh, the New Yorkers lost 1-3, Shesterkin swam in away games and was substituted twice, experienced Crosby, Rust and Gunzel tore through the Rangers defense.

However, the guys from Broadway showed character and won three matches in a row, which no one believed.

The series with Carolina also reached Game 7. Apparently they can’t help it. The Hurricanes win exclusively at home, but lose all away games. Fortunately, Carolina has home-court advantage in the first two rounds. They won at home in Game 7 of the series against Boston and will also face Rangers at home.

New Yorkers will have to perform another miracle. Saturday’s victory should give them emotions. And Shesterkin’s confident play can be the key to success, even if the opponent is the favorite.

On Saturday, the Russian goalkeeper made all the headlines. First, he stopped 37 of 39 shots, which is cool, especially compared to the rivals’ keepers: Kochetkov and Raanta saved 20 of 25 with two.

We’re used to Shesterkin’s great goalkeeping stats, but now he’s gone one step further. Igor also has two assists to his credit, and it’s only the fifth time in Stanley Cup history that the goaltender has scored two points in a game. Of course, one shouldn’t imagine Shesterkin bringing Zibanejad one-on-one with the opposing keeper with a long-range pass. He just launched the attack from his own goal, and it turned out that there was only one partner between him and the scorer. Nevertheless, the statistical achievement is remarkable.

Shesterkin himself reacted calmly to his goalscoring performance:

– Today was a very important match, we had to win, which we managed to do. As for the two assists, the guys did everything themselves. I just gave them the puck.

Head coach Gerard Gallan has traditionally praised Shesterkin:

“He is exceptional and he has been all season for us.

But Panarin tried to joke after the game:

– Of course, it’s always (good) to have such a goalkeeper… It remains to start scoring.

Artemy himself, by the way, finally started scoring. In game six, he scored the first goal of the series. He set the final score midway through the third period. In six games against the Carolinas, the Rangers star is only one point ahead of the goaltender so far.

The seventh game will take place on Tuesday night, Moscow time. Can the Rangers break Carolina’s home streak?
