CSKA coach Fedorov believes Torpedo’s style is difficult for rivals

The head coach CSKA Sergei Fedorov after defeating “Torpedo” (8:3) answered the columnist’s question about which team style he finds more difficult – Torpedo or Lokomotiv.

Torpedo ranks third in the KHL in goals scored (197), Lokomotiv have conceded the fewest goals in the league (115).

“We don’t choose opponents, we look at our filling of the game,” Fedorov said. – And if we talk about the teams you named, we saw both styles in action. And we lost against these clubs. They are both difficult.

But I think the Torpedo style is more difficult. Because the Lokomotiv is built in the middle zone. But that also changes. When possible, they are very active and move forward aggressively as the first mover. And the second is nearby, and they’re hanging on.

But they don’t have as many opportunities as Torpedo, who has no training. They always play under pressure. Maybe two or three times a game they line up in the middle zone, when the opponent clearly has the puck, then they switch.

But Torpedo has a very mobile style, where players are constantly on the move – with or without the puck. And it’s harder for them. As I always said when I was a gamer, “speed kills”. For me, that has always been an advantage.
