Striker Kazan “Ak Bars” Danis Zaripov explained why he never played with his son in the KHL.
On Friday, Ak Bars in Kazan lost to Metallurg Magnitogorsk with the score 3:6. This match was a farewell for 41-year-old Zaripov.
The striker’s son, Artur Zaripov, 20, plays for Irbis, which is the home club of the Kazan club in the MHL.
– You said you wanted to play with your son. Why didn’t it work?
“Maybe it could work. Last year Dmitry Vyacheslavovich [Квартальнов] offered it. But I’m not one of those people who pull by the ears, even if it’s my own son. Even if we don’t play together, I’m ready to wait for him to prove his skills and join the first team. I told him – until you give the result, you don’t have to, unfair and fake moments are not for me. If he showed up, proved he is capable, we would play together, maybe more than one game. Maybe he would play for me now, carry on. But I believe in him, he has everything in front of him, I think he will prove it without me,” the official website of Ak Bars Zaripov quotes.
Zaripov is a three-time world champion and five-time Gagarin Cup winner (three times with Ak Bars, twice with Metallurg).
