Tretiak considers the development of student sport as one of the priorities of the FHR

President of the Russian Ice Hockey Federation (RCF ) Vladislav Tretiak in an interview with , he spoke about the state of student hockey in Russia and noted that its development is one of the priorities.

The day before, Tretyak spoke at the opening ceremony of the MGIMO Rector’s Cup student tournament, which took place in Red Square on the GUM ice rink, and spoke about the work of developing student hockey.

— Work on student hockey is a very important area of activity. We give the opportunity to lead a healthy life, to form not only sports skills, but also character, the will to win, the ability to work in a team and for the benefit of the team. These qualities are necessary not only for athletes, but also for all compatriots, all citizens of our country.

The more attention is paid to student hockey, the more the mass character grows. More than 80 teams already participate in SHL competitions – that’s more than 2500 students. The best performance in the SHL championship, the second major tournament is the championship. Not only is the number of participants growing, but also the number of regions involved in student hockey – there are already 32 of them. Open training sessions and exhibition games are held in many regional centers. For example, the Opening Cup between teams from different federal districts and two capitals. As well as the SHL All-Star Game, which was organized by various cities – from Moscow and St. Petersburg to Tyumen and Chelyabinsk. All SHL Championship games are webcast. The promotion of hockey among students contributes to the popularization of our sport, gives the practice of the game to graduates of the School of Youth Sports who have not become professionals. There are instances where brilliant SHL players have been invited by Youth Hockey League teams. This is a good opportunity to improve sportsmanship.

And the “Learn. Play. Become the best!” program is an important tool for social development. It allows young athletes to pursue higher education in the best universities, improve life after hockey, become a specialist in a other field. We help young people to acquire new skills and good career prospects. After all, life does not stop after leaving sport. I would also stress the importance of working to expand international relations in the field of student hockey, including with our country’s strategic partners. The FHR is constantly setting new goals, the progressive development of student hockey remains one of the priorities of our activity,” Tretyak told .

This season is already the seventh for the Student Hockey League. This student hockey support and development association was created and launched by the FHR in May 2016 based on the instructions of Russian President Vladimir Putin.
