CSKA head coach Sergei Fedorov explained after the fifth game of the series with Severstal (4:3) why his team lost the advantage during the match.
During the meeting CSKA leads 4:1, but Severstal brought the intrigue, reducing the gap in the score to a minimum. Suddenly, the army team won and is now leading the series (3-2). The sixth match will be held on March 12 in Cherepovets.
– It seems that CSKA in these playoffs lacks “killer instinct”. You are already champions and the players are like cats in their own right. How to burn their eyes?
– He definitely is. And you can’t answer in two words. But I will tell you that leading 3-0 and 4-1, having a great chance to increase their advantage in a 5-on-3 situation, our guys suddenly decided to open a hockey academy. Instead of doing the things that get results.
Our hockey players do not understand that playing in the majority is not a privilege, but very serious hard work. In any case, today it was very clearly visible. So, for the technical staff and for me personally, it’s a very big surprise that our leaders, leading players, have decided to do this… How to put it mildly… Because everything has already been said louder. But it doesn’t fit in any gate, especially the hockey ones – which they showed in that particular segment of the game. And after that we lost some understanding of how to play in general.
Our task is to ask what happened. And draw certain conclusions, prepare the team for the next game. And to find this “killer instinct” so that there are no more questions,” Fedorov said, as quoted by the correspondent.
