Dynamo Minsk head coach says his team lost series to SKA due to injuries to defenders

Head coach of the Minsk “Dynamo” Craig Woodcroft after losing to SKA in the first round of the Gagarin Cup, he said injuries to defensive players were a key factor in his team’s failure.

On Saturday, Dynamo Minsk lost to SKA in the sixth game of the Gagarin Cup first round (2-4) and ended their playoff performance.

– I’m very upset that we couldn’t move the series to Game 7. Our players gave their best, left everything on the ice, gave a real fight to a strong opponent. The key moment was that several top players got injured during the series and just before it started. This was especially true for defense. It was clear that we lacked depth in the defensive line. But I’m proud of the team’s performance. The guys were ready to play.

What was missing to win?

We made two mistakes today. We score in the minority, we give ourselves energy, but we immediately cash in return. This goal was the result of an unforced error when a player beat three. Then second base, when we knocked the puck off the stick. It wasn’t a very good change,” the correspondent reported in Woodcroft’s words.

To date, SKA and Lokomotiv have reached the second round of the Gagarin Cup in the West, and Ak Bars, Avangard and Admiral in the East.
