Coach of the Russian national ice hockey team Alexei Zhamnov told RBC Sport it was too early to talk about the national team’s return to international tournaments.
On Monday, a source close to the governing bodies of the IIHF told on condition of anonymity that the majority of IIHF members, for business reasons, are in favor of Russia’s return to the world championships. Among them are the federations of Canada and the United States, and against the Czech Republic, Finland, Sweden and the Baltic countries.
Now, it would be wrong to comment on anything. Some say one thing, others another. I have no information. It is still too early to talk about the return of the Russian national team to international level,” Zhamnov said.
In January, IIHF chief Luc Tardif told that the issue of admitting the Russian team to international tournaments would be discussed at the organization’s annual congress in May.
