Ice Hockey Head Coach “Dynamo” Alexei Kudashov told what philosophy of play he instills in the Moscow team.
Dynamo finished the KHL regular season in fifth place in the Western Conference before losing to Torpedo Nizhny Novgorod in the Gagarin Cup first round, 2–4.
– Only in defense, apart from a few teams, no one plays in the KHL anymore. Although defenseless, of course, it is impossible. It’s just that the defensive game changes too. Those who play kickback and then counter-attack are few.
We have chosen a more balanced model for Dynamo. When possible, we try to keep the puck and attack. But since it is impossible to play constantly in attack, our team is ready to act reliably in defense as well. But our philosophy and our selection of players dictate that we should play offensive hockey. So far we haven’t had a lot of technical players who can play with the puck in a short pass. But we always try to press and attack. Play tight, fast and aggressive hockey,” Kudashov said at a press conference.
– Where will Dynamo move to in the future?
– Quickly. Hockey is picking up speed. Slow players can no longer keep up with their opponents and start breaking the rules. It affects immediately.
