Ovechkin broke Gretzky’s record

Washington Capitals Captain Alexander Ovechkin scored in the NHL regular season game against the Columbus Blue Jackets and set a new league record.

For the Russian striker, this goal was the 40th of the current season. He broke the record Wayne Gretzky by the number of seasons with more than 40 goals. Ovechkin is in his 13th season with at least 40 goals, Gretzky has 12 of those seasons.

Ovechkin is the second-leading scorer in NHL history with 820 goals. The leader is Gretzky (894).
