IIHF decision not constructive, FHR will continue to do everything possible to bring Russia back to international level

The Russian Ice Hockey Federation (RHF) has commented on the decision of the International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF), which extended the suspension of the national team Russia for the 2023/24 season, and also noted that she would continue to make every effort to bring national teams back to international level.

On Wednesday, the IIHF officially extended the suspension of teams from Russia and Belarus for the 2023/24 season.

– The format of competitions such as the World Cup provides for competition between the strongest athletes on the planet, without discrimination based on nationality or ethnicity. Russia is one of the leading countries in world hockey, one of the leaders in terms of victories and medals in the most prestigious international tournaments.

The withdrawal of the Russian national team from participation in the world championships and other competitions for the far-fetched reason of “participant safety” is a decision that is neither constructive nor beneficial for world hockey. The FHR will continue to make every effort to bring national teams back to international competitions, the statement said.

Russian teams have not participated in IIHF tournaments, including world championships, since spring 2022.
