Double Olympic ice hockey champion Alexander Kojevnikov told that he supports the statement by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) on a possible boycott by Ukraine of competitions in which Russians can participate.
On Saturday, the IOC told that the Ukrainian government’s decision to boycott the competition if Russians were allowed to participate would only hurt Ukrainian sport.
– Politics is politics, but today the IOC answered correctly the only time. It does not matter if Ukraine is not in the competition, she jokes: today one thing, tomorrow another.
Nonsense to encourage athletes to condemn their country, to leave their clubs. They are trying to get the Russians to betray their homeland. Those who already wanted to betray live there – in the West. Everyone else supports their president and their country,” Kozhevnikov told .
On March 28, the IOC Executive Committee announced recommendations for the admission of Russian athletes to international competitions. Recommendations include individual clearance, status neutrality, banning team sports, and banning athletes associated with security forces or who have expressed support for the CWO. A decision on the Paris 2024 Olympics will be taken “at the appropriate time”, said the IOC.
