Coach of the Ukrainian national hockey team – about the training camp in Kyiv and the next season
Main coach Ukrainian national ice hockey team Vadim Shakhraichuk spoke about the plans of the national team for the next season.
Yesterday, June 7, the blue-yellows started an unofficial training camp in Kyiv. A call to the location of the team received 21 hockey players.
“We wouldn’t mind holding test matches, but where can we find opponents? The national teams of Canada and Finland will not come to us, and we do not want to play against Russia and Belarus on principle. To make it more interesting for the guys, we will hold two-way games. At the same time, we will try the players in different combinations. But it will be later,” Shakhraichuk said.
“In a war it is difficult to plan anything, but we are trying to do it. With the understanding that every next day can cross everything. I would like our air defenses to shoot down Russian missiles all the time. But a few days ago, six arrivals happened in Kyiv at once … Therefore, I am sharing my best practices and I don’t know if I will be able to implement them.”
“We made a preparation plan for the next season, confirmed participation in three stages of the Eurochallenge – in November, December and February. Based on whether we will be able to launch the championship of Ukraine, events are possible in August. If the war does not allow the start of the national championship at the usual time, we are considering participation in the Eurochallenge at the end of the summer as a draft option.”
“Almost half of the guys have either already signed contracts or have offers from different European clubs. These clubs and championships are not always the strongest, but now it is important that hockey players are not left without match practice during the next season.
In May, the team of Vadim Shakhraichuk took third place in the IB division of the World Championship, in which they will perform next year.
