Athletistic/Hockey. New York Rangers Russian goaltender Igor Shesterkin achieved a historic feat by making over 600 saves in a single Stanley Cup Playoff season.
In a 1–4 game against the Tampa Bay Lightning, Shesterkin saved 27 of 30 shots on goal, bringing his Stanley Cup save total to 616 in 18 games played.
No goalie has been able to hit more than 600 saves faster since the 1955/56 season, when the NHL began tracking goaltending records. There are over 600 saves before Shesterkin, but in 19 playoff games played, Ken Dryden (1971), Kirk McLean (1994), John Vanbiesbroek (1996), Oli Kolzig (1998), Jean-Sebastian Zhiger (2003) and Tuukka Rask (2013).
Shesterkin also became the second goaltender in Rangers history with over 600 saves in a single Stanley Cup season. Before him, this feat was conquered by Henrik Lundqvist, who made 683 saves during the 2013/2014 season.
