Russian goalkeeper “Florida Panthers” Sergei Bobrovsky set the club record for most shots recorded in a Stanley Cup game, according to the league records website.
On Friday, the Florida Flames defeated the Carolina Hurricanes in Game 1 of the NHL Eastern Conference Finals 3-2 in fourth overtime. Bobrovsky made 63 saves and was named the game’s second star. The series score became 1-0 in favor of Florida.
The previous franchise record was held by goaltender John Vanbiesbroek, who made 55 saves against the Colorado Avalanche in the 1996 NHL playoffs.
Bobrovsky also stopped more than 50 shots on goal in the second straight Stanley Cup game. He became the third goalkeeper since the 1955/56 season to do so.
Florida and Carolina’s rematch will be on May 20.
