The Canadians were the first to open the scoring: midway through the second period, Tyler Toffoli scored the puck after assists from Scott Lawton and Jack Quinn. A few minutes later Niko Hishir equalized (assisted by Michael Faure and Kevin Fiala) and 3.5 minutes later Dario Simion (assisted by Christian Marti and Gaetan Has) gave Switzerland the lead. Andres Ambuhl doubled his side’s advantage with assists from Nino Niederreiter and Enzo Corvi, then late in the game Michael Karkon scored a goal, but it wasn’t enough for Canada to save.
Switzerland picked up their fifth victory in five World Cup matches and lead the group with 15 points. Canada is third with 11 points. For the Canadians, this is the first loss of the tournament.
