Athletistic/Hockey. Today, May 22, the Arena-Riga hosted the Ice Hockey World Championship game between Canada and Norway, rival teams in Group B. Following a tense match, the Norwegian team won the shootout with a score of 3:2.
The first goal was scored in the 10th minute of the game by Andreas Martinsen (Ken-André Olimb) against Team Canada. At the start of the second period, Sondre Olden (Eirik Salsten) doubled the Norwegians’ advantage. However, Team Canada responded with a goal from Milan Lucic (Mackenzie Wigar, Jacob Middleton) and then Lawson Cruz (Michael Carcone) equalized. In the decisive shootout, Norwegian hockey players proved to be more accurate.
This is the second loss for the Canadian team at the World Cup after a series of four victories. In the previous match, the Canadians lost to the Swiss national team with a score of 2:3. The Norwegian national team, in turn, achieved a second victory in this championship, interrupting a series of two defeats in previous matches.
