Germany will host the 2027 Ice Hockey World Championship, this decision was taken at a meeting of the Congress of the International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) in Tampere (Finland).
According to the results of the vote, Germany’s candidacy received 75% of the votes (102), the second candidate being Kazakhstan (25%, 34). The tournament will take place in Düsseldorf and Mannheim, with both arenas seating more than 13,000 people. The exact tournament dates are May 14-30.
“This is an important step for the German Ice Hockey Association (DEB). We are very pleased with the choice of IIHF delegates. I would like to thank everyone who has been involved in this work over the past few months. The carefully designed concept proved to be very convincing. We look forward to hosting this major international event in the heart of Europe in May 2027,” said DEB Chairman Peter Merten, as quoted by the IIHF website.
In 2024, the world championship will be held in the Czech Republic, in 2025 – in Denmark and Sweden, in 2026 – in Switzerland. In 2017, Germany co-hosted the tournament with France.
The 2024 Women’s World Championship will take place in Utica (USA) in April.
Russian and Belarusian teams have been suspended from participating in international tournaments due to the situation in Ukraine.
