The program for the final day of the World Championships begins with a bronze medal game between the United States and Latvia. Both teams have shown excellent hockey in the current tournament and were worthy of reaching the final, but only one of them is satisfied with the third most important series of medals. According to the bookmakers, the North American team is the favorite in this confrontation. The victory of the American team is estimated at 1.55 points, while the achievement of the Latvians is 4.88. But we all remember Sweden being seen as the even clearer favorites in the quarter-final against Latvia and what came of it afterwards.

Recall that in the quarterfinals the American team lost in overtime to the German team (3:4). According to pundits, this match was the worst for the North Americans in the current tournament as they lost for the first time. Interestingly, the Stars and Stripes haven’t been able to reach the final of the World Championships since 1960. But in the battles for 3rd place, the American team is much more successful. In the past 10 years alone, North Americans have won world championship bronze four times, most recently in 2021.
For the Latvian national team, the current success (fight for bronze) is the pinnacle of performance at the world championships. Prior to the current tournament, Latvia’s biggest achievement was 7th place in the World Cup. There is an opinion that Harijs Vitolins’ team could even reach the final of the competition if any other team except Canada were their semi-final rivals.
