The Latvian national team goalkeeper became the most valuable player at the 2023 Ice Hockey World Cup

National team goalkeeper Latvia hockey Artur Chilov recognized as the most valuable player (MVP) of the 2023 Ice Hockey World Championship, which took place in Tampere (Finland) and Riga.

The 22-year-old Vancouver goaltender has featured in all 10 Latvian games in the tournament. The Latvian national team took third place at the World Championships, winning world championship prizes for the first time in history. In the bronze medal game, the Baltic team outplayed the Americans in overtime.

Shilov became the fifth goalkeeper to win the World Championship MVP title. Previous MVPs have included goalkeepers Dennis Endras (Germany), Viktor Fast (Sweden), Pekka Rinne and Juho Olkinuora (both Finnish).

According to journalists, the iconic team of the tournament included Shilov, defenders Mackenzie Wigar (Canada) and Moritz Seider (Germany), forwards Jon Peterka (Germany), Rocco Grimaldi (USA) and Dominik Kubalik (Czech Republic).

For the record 28th time, the Canadians won the World Cup gold medal, beating the German team in the final (5-2).
