Fetisov suggested Russian hockey players steal the Stanley Cup to bring to Russia

Three-time Stanley Cup winner Vyacheslav Fetisov in an interview with , he joked that Russian hockey players who will become the owners of the trophy this season will have to steal the cup and bring it to Russia.

Earlier, NHL Deputy Commissioner Bill Daly advised players of the Tampa Bay Lightning and Colorado Avalanche that the Stanley Cup would not be going to Russia this summer.

Do you follow the Stanley Cup final?

– I’m not much, because I’m a rather busy person, but I hear correspondents calling, asking for an opinion. I can say our guys are great, well known, prominent. The only thing, of course, upset that they forbade bringing the Stanley Cup, which I first brought to Moscow. There was also a confrontation between the league, I said right on the ice that I would go to Moscow, they told me no, they say, there is corruption, crime. I said it’s my country and my friends, I want it in Moscow. They brought it, they didn’t go anywhere.

– Should we outrage our guys?

– You may be outraged, but if the decision is made, they must understand. The only thing, perhaps, is to steal it somehow, to bring it secretly. Well, I suggested at one point that the Stanley Cup should be stolen to promote it. I suggested that when I brought them to Moscow, they were first thrilled, then scared. We kept the cup at the Lubyanka, it was one of the conditions. On a floor in a safe they handed over a mug at night, Fetisov said.

The Colorado Avalanche beat the Tampa Bay Lightning in Game 1 of the best-of-four series 4-3 in overtime. The second game of the confrontation is scheduled for June 18.

Russian goalkeeper Andrey Vasilevsky, striker Nikita Kucherov and defender Mikhail Sergachev are part of the “Tampa” team, striker Valery Nichushkin plays for “Colorado”.
