‘Vegas’ was lucky they got Barbashev” – Dementiev

Hockey agent and expert Alexei Dementiev believes that “Vegas » lucky to sign a contract with the Russian striker Ivan Barbaschev .

Vegas defeated Florida 9-3 in Game 5 of the NHL Finals series at home to win the series 4-1. Barbashev previously won the Stanley Cup in 2019 with St. Louis.

– Of course, it is surprising that, being in the team for only three months, Ivan Barbashev was able to win the Stanley Cup with Vegas. The second of his career and the first for the club. Many may call this a great success. But I wouldn’t say that because, looking at how the Golden Knights have played all season, it’s clear they weren’t just trading Barbashev. However, the exchange is not as simple a procedure as it seems. This is a well thought out decision based on the need of the team. And so everyone decided to make a point of reinforcement in the person of such a universal player as Ivan, – said Dementiev RT.

He also noted the strengths of the Russian hockey player.

Ivan knows how to do everything. He performs well in power struggles, he knows how to win one-on-ones, he works well from the edge, he mobilizes well in the minority. I’m not talking about how he scores. Therefore, Vegas was very lucky that Ivan at that time did not have a salary corresponding to his level, and they were able to get it. Now he will earn much more. And the second Stanley Cup he won confirms my words,” Dementiev said.

After leaving St. Louis, Barbashev played 45 games for Vegas, including the playoffs, and scored 34 (13+21) points.
