The Continental Hockey League (KHL) has introduced rule changes for the 2023/24 season, according to the official KHL website.
– The changes will allow referees to impose a two-minute penalty for open wickets in the event that a player from the opposing team is injured in this episode. The 10-minute disciplinary penalty for removal of equipment will be removed from the “Combat” rule if the opponent does not accept the challenge and refuses to fight.
Goals will also be changed – if an attacking player, after being tagged by a defending player, moves the goal, after which the puck crosses the line, then the goal counts, the statement said.
A rule was also introduced – “a ban on players holding the puck for more than three seconds in a trapeze behind their own net. In the case of the first violation, the game will be stopped and a warning with a face-off in the zone of the team that broke the rules, and in subsequent violations – a minor penalty.
Additionally, “if during the video review another violation has been found by a player, then the referees may impose additional penalties. Additionally, the judges may impose a simple 5-minute penalty for violations for which a penalty of 2 minutes or 5+20 is imposed.
The new KHL season kicks off on September 1 with a game between CSKA Moscow and Ak Bars Kazan.
