“CSKA acted honestly in offering a contract to Ivan Fedotov” – Yuri Novikov

Honored Russia coach Yuri Novikov told RB Sport he was happy to return to HC CSKA goalie Ivan Fedotov .

– On behalf of the fans, we congratulate Fedotov on the end of his military service, he honestly paid his debt. It’s clear what a difficult situation it was, which was stressful for Vanya. He bravely endured everything, which suggests that Fedotov is a goalkeeper not only on the field, but also in life. As fans, we still cannot understand Vanya’s future fate. The fact that CSKA offered him a contract is a good thing. It’s an honest act on the part of the club – to forget all the grievances and start working again.

Only specialists and lawyers can determine whether Fedotov has a valid contract with Philadelphia and what will happen next. We can only wait for official declarations, in this situation we are spectators. The most important thing is that Vanya should forget about all this and rush back to goalkeeper work. What decision he makes is his right, he did everything according to the law. We will worry about him and take care of him no matter what shirt he wears on the pitch.

In general, Vanya’s case is unique. I don’t remember any such thing in our hockey history that a player had the opportunity to leave for the NHL and ended up in the military. And if Vanya realizes his dream and becomes a goaltender again, then I would like him to play in the NHL and compete with our best goaltenders – Bobrovsky, Vasilevsky, reach that bar. We the fans are happy that he has returned to our civilian sporting life. And then he and the experts will decide what is possible and what is not. This must be done in accordance with the law so that there are no unnecessary scandals. The most important thing is that this difficult and stressful year has passed. I feel sorry for Vanya as a human being. All fans will be happy to see him back on the ice,” Novikov said.

Fedotov signed a rookie contract with Philadelphia in July 2022, but was drafted into the military for a year. After returning from service, he signed a two-year contract with CSKA. On Saturday, the Kontinental Hockey League (KHL) announced that it had registered Fedotov’s contract with CSKA.

On Monday, the FHR issued an official statement that the decision on the possibility of Fedotov’s participation in the KHL will be made only after consultation with the International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF).
