russian strikerWashington » Yevgeny Kuznetsov will be traded to another club this offseason, according to the authors of Russian portal Machine Never Breaks.
That conclusion was made by the site based on a press conference by Capitals general manager Brian McLellan, who said the team needed to rejuvenate the forward line-up.
“We were aggressive in the project with our proposals, but none of this materialized. I feel like we have some good business and the guys we’re looking for haven’t found any new teams yet. Maybe we’ll sign contracts with them later? We continue to participate in this process.
I think everyone wants change, but we don’t have enough room under the salary cap. The only way to create a financial reserve in this system is to get rid of a few players with big contracts,” McLellan said.
Last season Kuznetsov, 31, played 81 games and scored 55 (12+43) points. According to open sources, the average annual salary of a Russian is 7.8 million dollars, the contract expires in 2025.
Kuznetsov is a double world champion, he has been defending the colors of Washington since 2014. In 2018, the Russian won the Stanley Cup with the club.
