CSKA head coach Sergei Fedorov said that in the new season, his team will win the Gagarin Cup for the third time in a row, and also shared his opinion on the new rules of the Continental Hockey League (KHL).
The new KHL season starts on September 1 with a match between the Moscow CSKA and Kazan Ak bars.
Did you manage to take a break from hockey? Ready to go for the third cup?
– I don’t know if I succeeded… Seriously, I spent all my days with my family, with children. They also helped us last season, they lived in hotels with me. Gorgeous weather. The brain is such a thing that it always functions. I’ve had a bit of a rest, but there’s a certain urge to look at the roster, the line-up and start some sort of team-building process. You know very well that our line-up has been preserved at around 90%. I’ve already seen a lot of guys on the ice, they’re all fresh, you can feel the energy. Our task is to organize some events on August 1st, to explain how we will proceed this season. We can only dream of peace. I like this idea: to do something that didn’t exist before, you have to become what you haven’t been yet. We will do our best and aim for the third cup. This thought pleases me, but does not force and charge.
— Do you like the new KHL rules?
“They will not play a decisive role. The guys are always on the move, the puck is advancing towards the opposing goal. Yes, I agree, very well. Some people use these innovations more, others less. They are pleasant to us, Fedorov said at a press conference.
