PyeongChang 2018 Olympic champion in ice hockey Egor Yakovlev told Gazeta.Ru that he followed the 2023 NHL Draft, but it’s too early to talk about the prospects of the drafted Russians.
On June 28-29, the 61st Rookie Draft was held in Nashville, where 19 Russian hockey players were selected. In the first round of the NHL draft, Dmitry Simashev was selected under the 6th number by the Arizona Coyotes, Matvey Michkov (Philadelphia) under the 7th, Daniil But (Arizona) under the 12th, under the 31st – Mikhail Gulyaev (Colorado Avalanche).
– I followed the repechage a bit, watched where our guys were taken, especially from Magnitogorsk. It is too early to talk about prospects, everything can be. There is a clear example of how Pavel Datsyuk was drafted and, in fact, what came out of it. Could Connor Bedard really be the next Connor McDavid? It is difficult to give such advances. Who knows, maybe he’ll be even better than McDavid. Hockey does not stand still and only develops, – said Yakovlev.
