Vityaz Head Coach Alexander Zavialov told how he made the decision to lead a team near Moscow.
– Of course, it was an extraordinary feeling that for such a long period of my career I was assistant to the head coach, and now I received an offer to lead the team on my own. I thought about this option for a very long time. But, having lived a very long time in hockey and having received an offer to become a head coach, I decided that I just had to try. So that later, having lived life, do not regret that there was a chance, but you did not try.
What did you doubt? Let’s talk. Being an assistant is always one thing, but running a club is another. You have a great responsibility in many areas and you must understand that you will be responsible for the end result. An assistant is an assistant, and the head coach has to be everywhere because all the team systems have to work properly. It’s in the team. And I thought: can I? After thinking about this question, I decided to take such a step, – quotes the words of Zavyalov “Championship”.
The Moscow region club finished sixth in the Western Conference following KHL regular season results. In the first round of the playoffs, Vityaz lost to Lokomotiv Yaroslavl with a score of 1–4.
