Olympic champion Sergei Mozyakin told that he would like to play in games with the participation of Russian hockey legends, but such meetings are difficult to organize due to the employment of many NHL players.
Mozyakin retired in July 2021. Since the summer of 2022, he has held the position of director of development at Metallurg, where he played from 2011 to 2021 and won the Gagarin Cup twice. On Wednesday, Mozyakin took part in the farewell match between the five-time Gagarin Cup winner and the three-time world champion Danisa Zaripova in Kazan.
– What was in your soul after the match, with what feelings did you leave the ice?
– Again, it was nice to be with Danis in the field, with the guys. Somewhere, probably, I got bored with hockey, but here we played and had fun.
– Someone, most likely Kuznetsov, said during the game: “We will play like this every year.” Did you hear?
– Maybe he was joking? Although the wires will really be enough for us. I will have a match, Vasya Koshechkin.
– When will your match take place in 2024?
– Probably in the summer. I would like in July, before the season. The guys are already starting to train, it’s the best time to get everyone together.
– Are you planning a large or small event?
– Pretty much the same plan as here. The guys from Magnitogorsk came to Kazan to look into the situation, to take a few moments for themselves. Initially, the match was planned for this year, but due to the closure of the airport, everything changed.
“Maybe it’s for the best?” They would all play in a summer, but at least you can extend the fun.
– Initially, they wanted to do a double match with Danis – in Kazan and Magnitogorsk. But it happened, it doesn’t matter.
– In football, a large number of legendary matches took place last year. Can we see something like this in hockey?
– We also had such matches, albeit a little. I would like to participate in these games. Children talk about it too. There are discussions, maybe there will be more matches. But there are a lot of NHL players, it’s hard to get everyone together during the season. But if possible, we will get together, – said Mozyakin “”.
In addition to Metallurg, 42-year-old Mozyakin played for CSKA and Atlant. The hockey player is the leading scorer (842 points) and sniper (419 goals) in KHL history. As a member of the Russian national team, he became the 2018 Olympic champion and two-time world champion.
