Athletistic/Hockey. Jokerit has been criticized for its use of symbols considered associated with Russia and the Soviet Union.
Last week, the Jokerit team took part in the matches of the local tournament, where an advertisement for the Red Carpet company, which specializes in festival activities, was shown. Jokerit players’ uniforms featured two red stars with the company name, each located in the collarbone area.
According to Iltalehti, fans pointed out that the red star is a symbol of communism and is also associated with Russia and the Soviet Union. The red star is still used, among other things, as a distinctive sign on Russian military aircraft.
“We apologize and are now fully aware that the red star carries many negative historical and political associations. We have discussed this matter with representatives from the red carpet and have jointly decided to change the color of the star for future matches”, quotes the CEO of Jokerita. Jussi Niemi in a club press release.
It should be noted that in the future the star on the blue home kit will be white, and on the white away kit – blue.
