As became known from “”, disqualification by the International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) for the goalkeeper Ivan Fedotov does not apply to the NHL – in this league the Russian goalkeeper can play.
On Monday, the IIHF announced a four-month suspension of the Russian goalie from CSKA starting September 1, 2023. In the summer of 2022, the hockey player signed a rookie contract with the Philadelphia Flyers NHL club, but he has then called up for military service. At the end of his service, he signed a two-year deal with CSKA, which was registered by the KHL in July.
Along with disqualifying the player himself, the IIHF also imposed a one-year ban on international transfers to CSKA.
Previously, the IIHF imposed a disqualification on another Russian hockey player – striker Evgeny Kuznetsov – for using banned substances. A sample taken from a player after the 2019 World Cup match between the national teams of Russia and the Czech Republic has tested positive. This four-year ban expired on June 12. At the same time, despite the disqualification by the IIHF, Kuznetsov could play and play in the NHL as part of Washington.
